Tibidabo

If you plan to spend your vacation in Spain and you wonder where to stay, we recommend you an apartment in Barcelona, where you definitely enjoy your days to the fullest. You can go, for instance, to the mountain Tibidabo. From your hotel in Barcelona, you can get to Tibidabo by metro very easy.

Tibidabo.jpgEven the drive will be a special adventure for the whole family. You have to take the metro L7 and descend at the final station, and then you have to change to the old blue tram which was by the way the only one in whole Barcelona for a long time. After that a rack railway will bring you up the final meters to the mountain.

With its 529 meters the Tibidabo is the highest mountain in Barcelona and from there you will have a gorgeous view about the city and you can even see Montserrat.
If you are finally there a lot of attraction will wait for you. On the mountain there is an old adventure park with a big wheel, rollercoaster and chair plane and a lot of other attractions. So you could enjoy the view and have some fun.

For those who are not into action they can visit the curch Sagrada Corazón which has been built after the ideal of the French sacre- couer. It was finished in 1962
and it is crowned by a bronze statue of Jesus that is directed to the sea.

The third attraction is an observation deck - the Torre de Colserolla. The television tower, which is on this platform, was built due to the Olympic Games in 1992 and which is 268 meters high.
So during your stay, you should visit this place because it is really worth it. It is an attraction for everyone and it doesn´t matter if you like action or just like to enjoy the view.

Feria de Abril 2011

The upcoming 40th April Fair in Barcelona lasts 9 days from the 29th of April until the 9th of May 2011 in the Forum Park at Diagonal Mar.

The fair´s origin is from Andalusia as it always takes place in Seville. The traditional festival is the perfect possibility to explore the traditional dances, foods, fashion and accessories from southern Spain.

feria de abril barcelona 2011.jpgThe entrance is totally free and provides you not only with culture but also with typical Andalusia cuisine, such as fried green peppers, the so called "pimientos del padron", fried anchovies (boquerones fritos), fried squid jamon (Spanish ham), torradas (big slices of bread, dressed with olive oil and tomato juice).

The fair consists of many attractions like the "casetas" which means little houses but actually being tents built on the fairground area. They amount 60 to 70 and are composed of different organizations and groups from banks to political parties and private organizations. In those tents you will find people partying, eating, singing and dancing "Sevillanas", the traditional dance of Andalusia. In this dancing everyone is involved from grandchildren to grandparents, and is costumed traditionally. The men wear the "traje de corto" ( short jacket, tight trousers and boots) and the ladies wear "faralaes" or "trajes de flamenco", which is a flamenco style dress. Between dances the Spanish families sit together at big tables eating tapas, jerez cherry and manzanilla and drinking wine. In addition some concerts with famous singers and bands also take part in the Feria de Abril.

If you are wondering where to stay during this time, we recommend you to book an apartment in Barcelona or a hotel in Barcelona. You will have beside the fair many attractions to visit in this beautiful and extraordinary city.

The Feria de Abril is easy accessible. The nearest metro station to the Feria is Maresme / Forum on Yellow L4.  There will be a special metro timetable during Feria de Abril with extended opening times on metro lines L1, L2, L3, L4 and L11. There are also several bus lines going to this direction, like the line 7, line 36, line 41, line 43 and line 141. An additional line between Plaza Catalunya and Parc de Forum, will be imported during some days of the fair.

Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia is Gaudis's still incomplete work which is situated in Barcelona's district "Eixample". The church is under construction for more than 100 years (since 1882) and is expected to be completed in the year 2026.

sagrada familia.jpgThe Sagrada Familia is considered as the master-piece work of the famous Catalan architect
Antoni Gaudi (1852 - 1962) and is the number-one attraction of Barcelona with thousands of visitors from all around the world every day.  Until his death in 1926, Gaudi directed the construction of the Sagrada Familia. But unfortunately, the work undertaken on Sagrada Familia doesn't follow exactly the plans of Gaudi, as the plans were destroyed during the war. When you visit the building you will see the contrast in the stone colour between the front and back of the building. However this in itself is interesting, especially if you visit the museum inside the building.

sagrada familia.jpgThe Sagrada Familia is absolute must-see when you visit Barcelona as it is is a truly magnificent building. If you want to spend your stay in a great holiday apartment in Barcelona just beside the gorgeous Sagrada Familia, or if you rather prefer staying in a nice hotel in Barcelona, but also close to the Sagrada Familia, you won't regret your choice.

San Joan Barcelona 2011

San Joan in Barcelona is the celebration marking the start of the summer season and the day with the longest period of daylight in the year. The San Joan celebrations are on the evening of the 23rd June. The day after is the Saint John's day, the 24th June, is a public holiday in Catalonia and Spain. The San Joan fiestas take place from sundown to sunrise on the night before Saint John's day, and are also called "verbenas," which means open-air fiestas or celebrations. In Spanish it is also named as "La Nit de San Joan" - the night of Saint John.

nit-de-sant-joan-2011-barcelona_jpg-c27c950570bdb6d81844da63c577b2eb.jpgIn ancient times the summer solstice was considered the most important event of the solar year. The element of fire stands as the symbol of abundance, purity and fertility as it is today one of the central elements in the Festival of San Joan. The festival is marked by fireworks and bonfires enlightening the skies of Barcelona. Don´t miss it, take the opportunity to do a trip to the European metropolis and book a central Barcelona hotel or Barcelona apartment.

Coming back to the festival of San Joan, the element of this festival is fire. The flame to light the fires is called the "Flama del Canigó," which is taken to different villages every year. There are bonfires, called "hogueras" in Spanish or "fogueres" in Catalan everywhere in Barcelona and Catalonia. If you like to follow one of the traditions, take part in the rituals of fire purification, which are said to cleanse your sins and get rid of your bad luck by burning something. For the bonfire old furniture is often used to symbolize a gesture of "out with the old - in with the new!

sant-joan3.jpg A big part of any Catalan festival is the food. During San Joan it is a tradition to eat Catalan 'Coca' desserts. Coca is a bread base stuffed with various kinds of fillings. The size of the bread should be twice as long as it is wide!

During this period there also will be San Joan parties in every club and bar in Barcelona. Due to this the Barcelona metro and trams are open all night on 23rd June, which is a big plus because the taxis in Barcelona usually charge an extra supplement of around 5€ between midnight and 06.00.

Sitges Beaches

Have you thought about spending your summer holidays in Costa Daurada? If you prefer spending your holidays at one of the most popular beaches, I recommend you to book an accommodation in Sitges . In this town with 26.000 habitants and only 35 kilometers from Barcelona, you can go to 17 different clean and sandy beaches.

Sitges.jpgDid you knew that Sitges is also called the St. Tropez of Spain? This is due to the property prices which are similar to the most expensive European cities. Another reason for this is the setting of the sea and the surrounding of the Parc Natural de Garraf. The seaside village Garraf is located between Sitges and Castellfels.Compared to the other beaches of Barcelona, it is the most quiet one and there for an ideal place for families, as it is already famous among local families. You will also find there nice restaurants with a view on the bay.

In general, the beaches of Sitges are lively, clean and busy. You are likely to feel relaxed on all of Sitges's beaches. With an apartment in Sitges you can easily bring a parasol and make sure that you bring your sun cream. The beaches provide very little natural shade and in the summer months the sun is very strong.

beaches of sitges.jpgIf you are looking for particular beaches, you may also be able to find what you want. Besides to the family beaches, sitges has gay-friendly and nudist beaches. Below I listed all of the beaches in Sitges, providing more detailed information.

List of all beaches in Sitges:

This beach is popular amongst all groups of people. It stands more on its own than the beaches at the other side of the church.

The town's main gay beach which is always very busy.

Platja de l'Estanyol

Another long and busy beach, popular with all groups of people.

Platja de la Riera Xica

A rather narrow and long beach. It is popular with all groups.

Platja de la Barra

This beach is slightly more of a cove and is towards the edge of town so it can often be less crowded than the more central beaches. It is popular with all groups.

Platja de Terramar

Another slightly less bust beach due to its location and due to the distance from the city centre. It is popular with all groups.

Platja de les Anquines

A beach, which is small and in a cove. A good option if you are looking for some peace and quiet. It is popular with all groups.

How to get to Sitges

You don´t need to buy tickets in advance, since as many as 4 trains leave every hour. Catch the train at the Passeig de Gràcia metro station towards "Vilanova / St Vicenç." The Sagrada Familia is considered as the master-piece work of the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi (1852 - 1962) and is the number-one attraction of Barcelona with thousands of visitors from all around the world every day.

Internship in Barcelona

parc güell barcelona.jpgYou always wanted to come and live in Barcelona? You have a compulsory internship semester or just some spare time during your summer holidays in front of you? Then why not combine both things and start an internship in Barcelona, one of the nicest cities in Europe- young, vivid, loud and exciting.

As Barcelona has one of the biggest tourism industries in the country you will have no problem finding an internship in this area of studies. Tourist agencies, restaurants, hotels and language schools are spread around the whole town and offer probably the perfect working atmosphere for you to make your life in Barcelona unforgettable.
Even though we always thinks of holidays, tapas and beach at first when we think of Barcelona, the city is nevertheless home to several major companies employing hundreds of people living here and being able to offer you an internship. Such well-known companies are not only SEAT which has internships open during the whole year but also Agilent Technologies, Chupa Chups the famous sweets producer, different huge banks such as Banco Sabadell, Caixa as well as offices of Mango, Inditex and many more.

You have your internship position in Barcelona and just need a place to stay? Congratulations, because this might be the biggest obstacle during your time in Barcelona. The best way to begin the quest for a flat is to stay in one of the widespread Barcelona apartments or Barcelona hotels. From there on you have the chance to look at all the available flat (usually shared ones) in and around Barcelona. One of the major differences especially between the countries like France/Germany and Spain is the size of the rooms. Rooms within a flat in the town are usually not bigger than 9m² and yes you do have to pay nearly 400€ for this which is very normal in Barcelona. Furthermore due to the high prices of flats in the town many older couples or singles offer parts of their apartments for rent so do not be shocked by that and do not immediately sort those ones out of your list of possible apartments. Take your time and visit as many flats as you can- in the end, everybody will find one that suits him.

Relax and the City - Ocata

Ocata.jpgIf you are on holidays in Barcelona, you probably want to spend a day on the beach in order to relax, sun and enjoy the sea. Barceloneta seems to be the best possibility, but it is mostly very crowded as it is located directly in the city. But there are several beaches near Barcelona that are very clean and calm. One of these beaches is called Ocata. You can take the train to Blanes from Sants Estacio, Placa Catalunya or Arc de Triomf and it takes only 20 minutes. When leaving the train, you are actually on the beach and have only to walk a few metres. Certainly, you will find quickly the right place to put your towels and calm down. If you are in need of a cooling-down, you can take a bath in the very clean waves. Afterwards you can play volleyball, bocce or other games on the white sand. Some small beach bars offer refreshments and snacks. There you can enjoy the typical Spanish dishes while listening to music. Since there are many hotels in Barcelona and its surroundings, it is very easy to find a suitable accommodation for your stay this exciting city.
