Chocolate in Barcelona
Barcelona is a famous holiday destination for families, friends, businessmen and single persons, offering activities and sights for every taste. The famous Park Guell, Sagrada Familia or the Plaza Catalunya are among the most visited sights during Barcelona holidays.
But did you know that Barcelona also is a paradise for lovers of chocolate? There is plenty of chocolate in Barcelona in every form, a good reason to book already now a cheap Barcelona apartment.
First, if you think of Spain and dishes, of course the traditional churros with hot chocolate come into your mind. And in fact bars and churrerias serving these delicious treats are quite common in Barcelona. Especially in winter in Barcelona little stands open to provide you with hot chocolate (often with pepper in it, but it tastes incredibly well) and the sweet churros, made of fried dough, a pleasure in every Barcelona holidays.

Besides that, chocolate in Barcelona has a long tradition of chocolate factory, originating in the 18th century when king Carlos III gave chocolate to the people of Barcelona. Already talented confectioners, the holiday city Barcelona quickly formed some of the best confectioners and pastry chefs in Europe.
Today, one of the most famous pastry chefs is Oriol Balaguer. The chocolatier born in Calafell is almost like a chocolate artist, inventing and creating sweets that are incredible and almost too fascinating to eat (but of course, only almost). Cakes with the names of El Paradigma or Insinuation, the small Bola-Bolas and chocolate creations with forms of golf balls or opera houses lets your mouth water and are worth a visit during your Barcelona holidays.
But of course this is not the only chocolate sight in Barcelona! The famous Chocolate Museum or Museu de la Xocolata is another proof of Barcelona's love of chocolate. Located in El Born, the Chocolate museum shows you interesting sculptures made from chocolate, as well as explaining the history of chocolate.
It is open the whole week except Tuesday, also on weekends, giving a perfect opportunity for an afternoon of guilty pleasures. To get to the Chocolate Museum in Barcelona, you should take the yellow L4 metro until Jaume I or the red L1 until Arc de Triomf.
Not too far away, near the green L3 metro station Liceu is another chocolate sight in Barcelona, the Xocoa, a chocolateria offering a wide range of chocolate. Besides delicious chocolate bars in flavours like green tea, rosemary or wild berries, they also offer a kind of chocolate beer, birracao.
If you want to visit this wonderful chocolate bar and maybe take a chocolate souvenir back to your Barcelona apartment, why not the chuck chocolate, Bambas of chocolate? Just keep in mind not to confuse them with your own shoes!
Also near Plaza Catalunya Barcelona is another chocolate bar restaurant, the Cacao Sampaka. They also offer a wide range, from desserts to sauces and pralines, but also wines and beverages harmonizing best with the chocolate dishes. You can also buy sauces and chocolate jam there!
And if you like more exotic tastes, try their anchovy chocolate. You can also take some gifts for friends and families back to your cheap Barcelona apartment.
