The Brandery Revolution 2010: Barcelona's passion for fashion

Barcelona appears as a modern, dynamic and cosmopolitan city. Due to its priviledged position in Europe, it is commercial and economic centre also for the world of fashion.

The Brandery Revolution 2010 is the name of the next fair in the city of Barcelona. It will take place from 28 June - 29 June 2010 from 11am to 8pm and on 30 June from 11am to 6pm. at the Fira Montjuic next to Plaza Espanya. The exhibition halls can be reached with metro line 1 and 3.

You can expect numerous exhibitors that will focus on presenting their brands and of course their fashion. Many of them come from Italy, France, the UK, Germany and Portugal, among them plenty of innovative and stylish fashion designers. The exhibition will be divided into four areas:

The Fira itself presents all brands and products.

The Brandtown caters you with bars and restaurants as well as a chill out room.

The Laundry is the centre for new ideas, trends, "round tables" and conferences.

The City is the location for activities and shows.

In conclusion, The Brandery Revolution will live up to its name and will provide you with new trends and styles of the world of fashion. Those of you who want to be informed about the upcoming trends should not miss this important event at the end of June.

Torre Agbar: Barcelona's shining colossus

The Torre Agbar belongs to the new sights of the city of Barcelona. It is a 32-storeyed tower peaking 142m in the Barcelona sky.

torre-agbar.jpgWhat Barcelona viditors can admire, when they have booked accommodation in Barcelona, such as a hotel in Barcelona, is an impressing bulding with a unique "light show" at its surface. Especially during evening hours, the spectacle is very impressing. With a 142m hieght, the Torre Agbar is not only one of the highest but also one of the most impressing buildings of Barcelona.

The tower has a front of 16,000m³ and a form of a water fountain. Also, during the day the tower appears as a quick-change artist. Over 40 different gloss paint arrange it so that the tower even changes its appearance during daytime. Builing this increadable "fountain" made a draft on 59,619 (partly) transparent glass slabs In addition to that, 250 tons of aluminium and 25,000m³ cement have been used.

4500 light emitting diodes arrange it so that the whole tower shines in red, yellow, blue and pink. Seeing it in the dark is a huge spectacular that you should not miss. You can visit the "shining" colossus at Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9pm to 12pm. It can be found at "Plaça de les Glories Catalanes"; metro station Glories (line 1). During winter time the show starts at 8pm and takes place until 11pm.

Whitsun in Catalonia's capital Barcelona

The capital of the autonomic region in Northern Spain is worth travelling almost every time. Especially in spring, the city awakes from it's winter sleep. A lot of tourist use the days of Whitsun to take a short trip to this vivid metropolis.

No matter if you are staying in an apartment in Barcelona or in a hotel in Barcelona, there is something for every taste and every pocketbook.

This year, Whitsun takes place at 23 May and 24 May (Monday). For working people, it could be interesting to combine this with one or two days of a holiday. Due to its diversity, nice weather and cultural activities Barcelona is the perfect destination for a short trip. A good tip for visitors who have a limited time in the city are the numerous bus tours that are offered across the city. Buying a "day pass" gives you the opportunity to see most of the attraction within a short period of time. Be aware of the fact that there are several routes. Though, with a day pass you are eligible to use all of them as often as you like.

You can find cheap flights with low cost carriers that depart from numerous airports in the UK and Ireland. Ryanair for example offers cheap flights to Girona or Reus. Those airports are close to Barcelona and can be reached easily by bus. Also, using a low cost carries makes a lot of sense for short trips. Due to the severity restrictions you usually pay more for luggage that exceeds 10 - 15 kilos. Consequently, you will not only save money but also strech your nerves at the airport.

Plaza Reial: Barcelona's gathering place

Located at the centre of Barcelona right next to "Las Ramblas", this scenic place can be reached very easily. Visitors that walk by, from one attraction to another, often recognize this beautiful place by chance. Most of them do not know that this is one of Barcelona's major gathering points.

2354598536_d5245a5717.jpgThe Plaza reial stands for little restaurants, bars and some clubs. Therefore, it is no wonder that the plaza is very vivid in the evening hours. Because it is no central, it can be reached within several walking minutes from one of the numerous central located hotels in Barcelona or one of the apartments in Barcelona.

This place became famous from the movie "The Spanish Inn" (original title: l'auberge espanole). The movie tells the story about a couple of international students that live to gether in an apartment in Barcelona. Also, some of you might know that Antoni Gaudi has designed one of the architectural sights at this place. He is one of the most famous artists that contributed a lot of other sights to the city.

Surrounded by tall palms that rise up to the sky makes this place a nic e place to rest during the day and a gathering point point for Barcelona's nightlife. At that time, you will recognize crowds of people pilgrimaging to the clubs. Being located at the Gothic quarter (Barri Gotico), you will also find there many small souvenir shops that are waiting for you!

Sonar Festival Guide

The Sonar festival is one of the biggest festivals of its kind for electronic music. There are also artists from related genres. Those will transform Barcelona from 17 to 19 June into the world capital of electronic music.

Those of you who have not booked an apartment in Barcelona or a hotel in Barcelona yet, should be aware that thousands of people will come into the city in the middle of June. They will pilgrimage to Barcelona from all across Europe and even across the globe. It is known as the central party for electronic music lovers.

The programme by days offers a lot of interesting acts. The evening's party starts at June 17th with the artist Ryoji Ikeda (Touch/JP) at Teatre Grec and at the same time with bcn216 + Cristian Vogel, Ricard Marxer & Oscar Sol: Japó (ES-UK) at L'Auditori at 5pm. At Friday June 18th there will be world class artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Booka Shade, Sugarhill Gang, Air and much more playing at several locations.

ci647_7208_chemicalbrothers1[1].jpgAt Saturday, there will be the culmination of the whole festival with world famous artists like LCD Soundsystem, Chemical Brothers (see picture), Roxy Music, Dizzee Rascal and many more artists that love electronic music. All in all, this year's Sonar festival promises to be even more legendary than in the years before.

Cosmocaixa: Museum of Modern Science

The Cosmocaixa - Museum of Modern Science has opened its doors in 2005. Since then, it is one of the most modern and most innovative museums in Barcelona and even in Spain.

MuseuCosmoCaixa_t4.jpgThose who want to take advantage of their holidays in Barcelona beside exploring the culture and lying on the beach should visit this museum. 30,000 m² exhibition area with its unique attractions invite you not only to be lionized but also to be tried out. Interactivity and didactics are the main keywords when describing the concept of the museum.

Especielly for children, the different exibitions offer a variety of chances to improve their knowledge in the area of maths, technique, chemestry and geology. Adults are also very welcome to explore the interactive exhibitions throughout the museum. If you decide to spend an afternoon in the museum, you should be aware that you will need at least 2 - 3 hours to explore everything!

Beside fix exhibitions, like the planetarium, there are also flexible exhibitions throughout the year. Particularly interesting for visitors are the days that do not require an entrance fee. These are:

    La Feria de Abril: Andalucia in Barcelona

    The 39th Feria de Abril will take place from April 25th to May 5th 2010 in the Forum area next to Diagonal Mar in Barcelona.

    Flamenco1.jpgIt is a traditional festival dedicated to the people from the south of Spain, Andalucia in particular. This is a perfect possibility to explore the tradition of southern Spain while staying in a hotel in Barcelona or in an apartment in Barcelona. The festival includes traditional dances, such as Flamenco, singing, fashion and accesoires from Spains sunny south.

    The entrance is totally free and provides you not only with culture but also with typical Andalucian cuisine, such as fried green peppers, the so called "pimientos del padron, fried anchovies (boquerones fritos), fried squid jamon (Spanish ham), torradas (big slices of bread, dressed with olive oil and tomato juice.

    The Feria de Abril lasts 9 days from the end of April until the beginning of May. Usually, the Barcelona region offers sunny weather at that time with temparatures warmer than 20°C. Therefore, the whole festivities will be held either outside or in marquees.

    La Revetlla de Sant Joan: Barcelona's shortest night

    During summer time Barcelona offers plenty of events and festivities. One of them is the Revetlla de Sant Joan - the most popular and spectecular one.

    Every year Barcelona celebrates the shortest night with fireworks and a big party. Having booked an accommodation in Barcelona, for instance a hotel in Barcelona offers you one of the most exciting nights in the city of Barcelona.

    The tradition behind this event is easy: You write your wishes on a piece of paper and throw it into the flames. Afterwards you will need to jump three times, so that the wish will coome true, according to the legend. This will take place all across the city, so that every part of the city has its own fireworks and partys. Therefore visitors have the possibility to explore and enjoy this beautiful tradition.
