According to legend, Saint George defeated a dragon to serve the life of a king's daughter. This legend arose from the 15th century and is still present in Catalonia. At that day people donate each other roses and books. Since 1926, April 23rd is the day of the book.

Nowadays, this two tradition have merged to the day of "Sant Jordi". It is celebrated in the whole city as a sort of street festival. This festivity is celebrated every year. It is one one of the most important days for the Catalan people celebrating the victory of Saint George.1024-Buch-Rose.jpg
