The unfinished symbol of Barcelona

sagrada familia.jpgOne of the most famous sights and probably the symbol of Barcelonian architecture is the massive Roman Catholic Church Sagrada Familiawhich has been under construction since 1882.

The church was designed by the famous Catalonian artist Antonio Gaudi who dedicated 40 years to this project. It is supposed to be finished by 2026. Sagrada Familia is very rich in Christian symbols due to Gaudi intending to build the "last great sanctuary of Christendom". Its 18 tall towers symbolize the Twelve Apostels, the 4 Evangelists, the Virgin Mary and the tallest of all Jesus Christ.

The construction of this unique project is financed through private investors (Roman Catholic church as well as the government do not fund this project) and the money spent by visitors on entrance and funding. More than 2, 26 Million people have already visited the Sagrada Familia and it does not seem to become less.
Opening hours are from October - March from 9am to 6pm and from April - September from 9am to 8pm. General entrance fee lies at 11€.

If you want to stay in the nice neighborhood of the Sagrada Familie during your stay in Barcelona, the best apartment to choose would be the Eixample Sagrada Familia Apartment.
