Alegria: a magical show in Barcelona

Alegría, which means joy, some kind of euphoria, is a great production that transfers the public to other times in which fantasy and magic were part of the daily life. The power of live music and the poetry of the images created by the artists of this Canadian company make the spectacle a sublime representation of beauty. A celebration of life, a carnival where the artists want to fly more and higher. The Cirque du Soleil performances are known all over the world due of its amazing acrobatics, creativity, light and sound effects, stage scenes and the music. One of their best features is that they don?t use animals with its performances. The idea of this circus is to redefine the rules of the traditional circus, innovating and looking for new limits.

Four Spanish artists take part in the Cirque du Soleil. Altogether 53 artists form the staff of that famous circus.
Every month, the Cirque du Soleil have castings in which head-hunters search the best artists, dancers and specialists in all the fields of the circus expression. Among them, there are many ex high competition sportsmen and sportswomen. These artists come from more than 40 countries and they speak more than 25 different languages. Nowadays the company has about 3,000 employees in the world: artists, musicians and technicians of around 40 countries. Until now they have produced more than thirteen spectacles and two films: Alegría inspired by the name of the present performance, filmed in 1997, Journey of Man, shut in the year 2000 and Midnight Sun that became in 2004. The author of the show is Guy Laliberté, born in Quebec City in 1959. With the help of a small band of kindred spirits, Laliberté recognized and groomed the talents of the street entertainers from the Fête foraine de Baie-Saint-Paul and created Cirque du Soleil in 1984.

Already a multitalented artist, Guy Laliberté quickly dove into the business world to plan and maintain the growth of the young company. He was the first to orchestrate the marriage of cultures and artistic and acrobatic disciplines that is the hallmark of Cirque du Soleil.
Thanks to its founder's vision and talent for bringing people together, Cirque du Soleil has become an international organization, as much in terms of its makeup as in the scope of its activities and influence. Guy Laliberté now heads an organization with activities on five continents.
