La Rambla de Catalunya
The pedestrianised section of Rambla de Catalunya, streching from Gran via to Diagonal, is in effect a continuation of la Rambla, but without a human statue in sight and with several good spots in which to enjoy an alfresco drink or tapa. Sheltered by pretty lime trees and lined by high priced shops, this is where Barcelona's bourgoisie have long come to stroll, see and be seen; though crossed by nine busy roads, it's the most pleasant way to walk from the old city city to Gracia. While the buildings can't compete with the modernista architecture of Passeig de Gracia, there's plenty to admire: check out Casas Juncadella and Fargas, by the prolific enric sagnier and Puig i Cadafalch's casa Serra. Make sure you catch the bronze statues by Josep Granyer that top and tail the Rambla: a thinking man's bull at the bottom and a cheeky-looking giraffe at the top.
The Eixample district is called the Quadrat d'Or of Barcelona. If you would like to spend some days in Barcelona and enjoy the spiritual centre of bourgeois Barcelona, check the online booking agencies which offer Barcelona apartments, Barcelona accommodation in the district of Eixample, and even located in Passeig de Gracia.
